Castor Oil, Belly Buttons & a Little Self-Love: Why Not?

Lately, I’ve been seeing more and more buzz about rubbing castor oil into your belly button — and y’all, I was curious. Why are so many women suddenly turning their navels into little wellness centers? So I looked into it.

Turns out, this trend actually has some roots in ancient Ayurvedic practices, where the navel is considered a central energy hub — connected to your digestive system, your nervous system, and even your emotional well-being.

While modern science hasn’t caught up completely, castor oil does contain powerful anti-inflammatory and detoxifying properties (thank you, ricinoleic acid), and massaging it into your abdomen can help support:

  • 💫 Better digestion

  • 🌙 Menstrual cramp relief

  • 💆🏽‍♀️ Reduced bloating

  • 😌 Stress reduction

  • ❤️ A lovely bedtime ritual to calm the nervous system

Now here’s where it gets fun: Some clever souls have started applying a drop or two of organic, cold-pressed castor oil to their belly buttons and then covering it with a flower-shaped nipple pastie — the same kind many of us keep on hand to go braless without bra lines. And let me just say... genius!

Not only does the pastie help hold the oil in place (especially overnight), but it also turns this little self-care moment into something playful and sweet. I mean, why not give your belly button a flower sticker and a little love?

💡 Pro tip: Warm the oil slightly, rub a few drops in a gentle circle around your navel, apply your flower patch, and if you’re feeling extra, lie down with a warm compress or heating pad for 15–20 minutes.

But here’s what I love most about this whole thing: whether or not the oil itself works miracles, the act of caring for your own body with intention and affection is a gift in itself. A little belly rub, a bit of stillness, a sweet-smelling oil, and the physical connection of touch?

That’s an easy way to release oxytocin — the feel-good, heart-warming hormone that supports emotional balance and longevity.

So go ahead, give it a try.

Stick a flower on your belly.

Rub some oil and some love into yourself.

You deserve it.

With sparkle & self-care,

Honey

PS: The pasties I use are from QueenVibes — the beige flower-shaped ones that look like sunshine and stick like a dream.
