Longevity, Love, and the Life Ahead

Every now and then, a piece of family history comes along that feels like a spark of inspiration meant just for you. My mom recently shared an old newspaper clipping about my sixth great-uncle, William Goolsby, who lived to be 108 years old in the early 1800s. His wife, Mary, lived to be 105. That alone feels extraordinary—two centuries ago, most people didn’t make it far beyond their 40s or 50s.

The article described William in vivid detail: still strong in body and mind, eyesight sharp, and even his beard mysteriously turning back from white to black, as if he were aging in reverse. His habits, the writer noted, were “very irregular” and “intemperate” (a polite way of saying he enjoyed his drink), yet he never darkened the door of an apothecary. Instead, when illness came, he would “starve himself into a cure.” Today we might call that fasting—and modern science now shows that fasting truly can help the body repair, reduce inflammation, and sharpen longevity. Perhaps, without realizing it, he was tapping into wisdom that circles back to us generations later.

But the part of this story that touches me most is not just the years he lived—it’s the years he shared. William and Mary spent more than eighty years side by side, companions through every season of life. Longevity is lovely, but longevity with love—that’s the real treasure.

I know in my heart that I want to live to at least 103—active, healthy, and with my mind clear enough to savor every moment. And when I get there, I want to look back on decades filled not just with resilience and independence, but also with a love that lights up my days. Someone I can depend on, laugh with, travel with, share family moments with, and wake up beside each morning with gratitude and sweet kisses.

If William and Mary could do it more than 200 years ago, without all the science, supplements, or conveniences we have today, then I feel hopeful that my story will also be one of long, joy-filled days and a love that lasts.

The Season of Love

I believe this next season of my life is the season of love—the kind that takes my breath away and keeps me smiling for no reason at all. I’m not in a hurry, because I know what I want: a love that chooses me back, fully and without hesitation. I don’t just want to live out my years—I want to burn brightly in them.

I want the best years: nights filled with laughter, flirting, and whispered secrets, days of travel and adventure hand in hand, family moments wrapped in warmth, and a passion so deep that every kiss feels like a promise and every morning in his arms feels like coming home.

✨ The second half of my life will be my best half.

Honey Note 🍯

Longevity is a gift, but it’s what we fill those years with that matters most. I’m dreaming of filling mine with joy, health, and a great, enduring love. Here’s to the sweet belief that the best is yet to come.

Life isn’t just about the number of years we’re given—it’s about how much love, joy, and fire we pour into them. My heart is ready for the sweetest season yet, one where love feels both steady and wild, tender and passionate, all at once.
