💛 Pack what you love.
Pack what works.
Pack what supports the way you want to feel.
And leave just enough room…
for something special you didn’t plan to find
There is something about Italy that invites you to slow down…
to walk a little farther, linger a little longer, and notice the beauty in the smallest details.
And the truth is — the way you pack shapes how you experience all of it.
After my last trip, I came home realizing I didn’t need more…
I needed less, but better.
So for my next 15 days in Italy, which I am already planning, I’m packing with intention — not for every possibility, but for the way I actually live when I’m there.
🌿 Pack for How You Live, Not “Just in Case.”
The biggest shift I am making is this:
I have stopped packing for “what if”…
and started packing for what I know I’ll wear.
That means:
favorite pieces
easy layers
clothes that feel good all day
And, most importantly, pieces that can be worn more than once.
✨ My 15-Day Capsule Wardrobe
This is all I’m bringing:
Bottoms
2 pairs of jeans
1 trouser
Tops
3 simple “base” tops
3 slightly elevated “pretty” tops
Dresses or Skirts
2
Layers
1 lightweight cotton cardigan
1 trench coat
Shoes
Sneakers (worn on the plane)
1 pair of flats or sandals
Undergarments
8 undies sets
6 pairs of socks
That’s it.
And somehow… it’s more than enough.
💛 Choose Pieces That Can Be Washed and Reworn
This is where everything changes.
When you choose fabrics and pieces that are easy to wash, you don’t need to overpack.
I wash items in the sink using hotel shampoo (it works perfectly), and I’ve found a simple rhythm that feels easy and clean:
Wash each item separately
Use very warm (hot) water
Let it soak for 30 minutes to an hour
Rinse several times
Wring it out well
Hang it in the shower to dry
Tops, socks, undergarments… all of it.
People have been handwashing garments in sinks for hundreds of years — and it still works beautifully.
🌿 Stick to a Color Palette
One of the simplest ways to pack less is to choose a monochromatic or cohesive color palette that suits your coloring and style.
For me, that looks like:
warm neutrals
soft browns
olive tones
cream and denim
Everything mixes.
Everything matches.
Everything photographs beautifully.
And getting dressed becomes effortless.
✨ Layering Is Everything
Instead of packing multiple bulky pieces, I rely on:
a lightweight cotton cardigan
a trench coat
The trench alone:
keeps you warm
works as a rain layer
instantly elevates any outfit
And the cotton cardigan?
It’s one of my most worn pieces — easy to layer, easy to wash, and surprisingly versatile.
🧴 Small Space-Saving Tricks That Make a Big Difference
These are the little things that changed everything for me:
Tinted sunscreen in contact lens cases
→ perfect for travel, lightweight, and easy to toss when finished
Use hotel shampoo
→ skip packing your own unless you’re particular
Bring travel-size conditioner only
→ it’s the one thing I care about
Travel-size hand creams
→ I brought a few small ones I love and used them all
→ they double as body lotion and even foot cream after long walking days
→ and when they’re empty, you can toss them and free up space
One small foldable bag - I love the Foldie
→ perfect for souvenirs on the way home
👜 Keep It Light and Functional
My travel setup is simple:
Carry-on suitcase - 21” carry-on which I often check rather than carry-on
Backpack (for laptop and essentials)
Small crossbody for walking
That’s it.
The backpack doubles as my work bag, and the crossbody keeps everything easy and hands-free while exploring. And if I want a pretty leather purse to carry, I wait and buy one in Europe.
🌙 Don’t Skip Comfort
There are a few things I will always bring:
a small noise machine
magnesium
headphones
Kindle
Because how you sleep…
determines how you feel the next day.
And that matters more than anything in your suitcase.
✨ Packing light isn’t about going without.
It’s about bringing what supports the life you want to live while you’re away.
Clothes you love.
Pieces that work together.
Small comforts that make you feel like yourself.
And leaving just enough room…
for something beautiful you didn’t plan to find.
💛 Honey Note
Pack simply. Move freely. Leave space for beauty.
With love,
MaryNell (Honey)
— always leaving room for something beautiful
