My Last Full Day in Florence
Today feels like a chapter I’ve been walking toward for a long time — a day made of marble, masterpieces, sunlight on the Arno, and the kind of inner clarity that only arrives after you’ve healed pieces of yourself you once thought might stay broken forever.
I am not surviving anymore. I am expanding.
8:15 AM — Michelangelo’s David at the Accademia
I’ll begin the morning at the Galleria dell'Accademia, standing before David — marble courage made visible.
There’s something fitting about this timing: morning light on a masterpiece that symbolizes rising above adversity.
Strength isn’t loud. Sometimes it’s simply standing tall again.
I’ll spend a little time with the rest of the museum, letting the softness of the early hour settle around me.
Late Morning Reset — A Gentle Stroll + Something Sweet
This window is meant for slowness, tenderness, and a little indulgence.
My Sweet Treat Options:
🍦 Gelateria Edoardo — organic, light, joyful, right near the Duomo
🥐 Cibrèo Caffè — refined and charming, perfect if I want pastries with personality
Either one will feel like a small celebration of being alive in Florence.
Lovely Walking Ideas:
Piazza Santissima Annunziata
Via dei Servi toward the Duomo
Quiet streets filled with morning light
A simple, beautiful pause before another masterpiece-filled afternoon.
1:30 PM — Uffizi Gallery
Next, I’ll make my way to the Uffizi Gallery, one of the most extraordinary collections in the world. Botticelli, Caravaggio, Raphael — art that shaped Western beauty itself.
This visit feels symbolic, too.
Standing before The Birth of Venus, I know I’ll think about rebirth — how the tenderness of the past few years has shaped me, and how ready I am for the next season of my life.
Evening: The Arno at Dusk + Dinner at Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco
After leaving the Uffizi, I’ll wander along the Arno — that honeyed twilight Florence does so perfectly. Maybe cross Ponte Santa Trinità, maybe drift toward Ponte Vecchio, letting the evening unfold in that effortless, Florence way.
Dinner: Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco
For my final night, I’m planning to choose Osteria del Cinghiale Bianco — warm, casual, welcoming, and absolutely perfect for a solo diner who wants to feel both comfortable and delighted.
They offer both vegetarian and pescatarian dishes, and their menu feels like comfort meets Tuscany. I already know the things I’ll be tempted by:
White beans with olive oil
Tuscan bread salad
Tortelli di patate con crema di zucca e guanciale
Ravioli con burro e salvia
Taglierini con gamberi e zucchine
And the crema mascarpone… which feels almost sinful in the best way
It sounds like the perfect farewell to this city: cozy, flavorful, and deeply Florentine.
Honey Note
This morning, I realized how far I’ve come. Not long ago, I was still mending the pieces of my heart — surviving rather than truly living. But I’ve done the work. I’ve let go of people who couldn’t love me, who couldn’t celebrate my joy, who made my world smaller instead of bigger.
Now? Now I’m in a chapter of growth, expansion, gentleness, and hope.
And someday, my sweet granddaughter will hear how her Honey spent her last night in Florence eating handmade pasta, walking along the Arno at sunset, and feeling grateful, open, and renewed — and she’ll know that healing is real and that resilience runs in her blood.
Con dolcezza e rinascita,
Honey 🍯
PS — Florence, thank you for the light you will shine on everything — especially the parts of myself I’m still learning to love.
