Teaching Care, Not Vanity: Why I Love the Idea of Rini Kids Skincare

Some folks are raising eyebrows about the new children’s skincare line Rini — the adorable masks and fun products designed just for little ones. I watched a segment on Fox & Friends this morning where people argued that giving kids skincare products somehow pushes beauty standards too early.

Y’all… I just don’t see it that way.

If we follow that line of thinking, then we’d have to ask why parents buy baby lotion — something nearly all of us have reached for at one point or another. We’d have to question baths with bubbles, hair brushing, teaching them to wash their faces, or putting sunscreen on their sweet cheeks before heading outside to play. Those are all forms of care, not vanity. And skincare can be the same.

Our skin is the largest organ we have, and it’s vulnerable to rashes, sun damage, dryness, and skin cancers later in life. How on earth could it be harmful to teach children gentle habits that help them take care of themselves?

We encourage healthy eating. We encourage movement. We encourage brushing teeth and good hygiene. So why would caring for their skin suddenly be crossing a line?

Learning is learning.

And children learn best through play.

If we make skincare fun — a cute mask, a soft cleanser, a silly moment at the bathroom mirror — then they aren’t learning to obsess over beauty. They’re learning to build habits. Habits that protect them, soothe them, and remind them that it’s okay to take a moment just for themselves. What a lovely lesson to grow up with.

And let’s be honest: we can't cling to old ideas forever.

Science evolves.

Our thinking evolves.

There was a time (not too long ago!) when medical practices told staff they couldn’t have painted nails because of “bacteria risk.” Yet dermatologists have since shown that people who care for their nails actually tend to have healthier nails. When we take care of something, it usually shows.

The same applies here.

A well-formulated kids line — like Rini, created specifically for young, delicate skin — is a far cry from pushing adult beauty standards. It’s actually the opposite: it’s meeting children where they are developmentally and offering safe, playful tools to help them form lifelong healthy habits. To me, that’s not harmful. That’s beautiful parenting (and grandparenting).

And for the folks clutching their pearls about “bad influences,” let me gently remind everyone: many of us grew up with candy cigarettes. If we survived that, surely a hydrating face mask for our minis won't cause an existential crisis.

The way I see it?

Skincare is self-care.

And self-care is a life skill worth teaching early.

I love the idea of children having products designed with their well-being in mind, especially when those products teach them how to care for the skin they’ll live in forever. If using SPF eventually becomes as automatic as brushing their teeth, then we’ve done something right.

So yes — I’m cheering for Rini and their adorable kids’ face masks. Anything that helps our babies learn to nurture themselves, playfully and safely, is something I’ll always champion. A child who learns to love taking care of themselves grows up to be an adult who knows they’re worth taking care of, too.

How lovely is that?

🍯 Honey Note

Here’s what I know deep in my heart: when our minis learn to care for themselves early — their skin, their feelings, their choices, their little growing bodies — they carry those lessons into every chapter of their lives. These tiny rituals become confidence. They become comfort. They become the quiet reminder that “I matter.”

And goodness, what a beautiful thing that is.

Healthy habits, healthy minds, healthy hearts… all starting in the sweetest years of childhood. If we can give our little ones joyful tools that help them grow into strong, self-aware adults, why wouldn’t we?

To me, that’s not vanity.

That’s love — taught gently, playfully, and daily.

One tiny face mask, one giggle, one bright little mind at a time.

Taking care, having fun, and raising confident little glowbugs & honey bees —

🍯💛 Honey (always cheering on our minis as they grow strong and shine bright)
