The Logistics Are Planned… Now Comes the Fun Part ✨

One thing I’ve learned about planning European adventures is that while the dreamy photos and spontaneous wandering may be what people see, so much of the real work happens quietly behind the scenes in the logistics.

Flights.

Train routes.

Hotel locations.

Walkability.

Safety.

Timing.

Transfer days.

How far I want to drag a suitcase over cobblestones. 😂

Truthfully, that is where much of my planning time is spent. And I’ve learned that choosing where to stay within a city matters just as much as choosing the city itself.

But now… the foundation is finally set.

I’ll be flying into Lisbon and staying in the Chiado/Baixa-Chiado area for four nights — the kind of neighborhood where life spills beautifully into the streets at night and cafés glow long after dinner.

Then onward to Porto for four nights, staying near the Ribeira/São Bento/Baixa area, where colorful buildings line the Douro River and evening strolls practically beg to happen.

After that, Madrid for three nights in the Barrio de las Letras neighborhood — lively, literary, elegant, and full of late-night energy and charm.

And finally, Barcelona for six nights in the Eixample near Passeig de Gràcia area, which already feels like exactly my kind of place: beautiful architecture, walkability, cafés, shopping, movement, and enough life around me to feel immersed in the heartbeat of the city.

So now that the logistics are largely settled…

I get to focus on the really fun part.

My wardrobe. ✨

For Italy, my palette leaned heavily into olives and soft earthy tones.

For Greece, it became whites and blues inspired by the sea and sky.

But this trip feels different.

Portugal and Spain in early autumn call for warmth, texture, richness, and sophistication. The palette forming in my mind feels very European café at golden hour.

Main Base Colors:

  • cream/ivory

  • camel

  • warm taupe

  • cognac

  • black

Accent Colors:

  • terracotta

  • cinnamon

  • rust

  • tobacco

  • muted bronze

  • perhaps one deep olive piece

I already have the perfect On Cloud shoes — purchased in Venice, which somehow makes me love them even more — with the most beautiful blend of black and copper tones. They’ll likely become my most worn shoe during this journey.

Now comes the lovely challenge of filling in the rest beautifully.

Soft knits.

Elegant layers.

Relaxed trousers.

Pieces that feel comfortable enough for long wandering days yet polished enough to sit down at a candlelit restaurant at night without feeling underdressed.

Honestly, I think clothing becomes part of the storytelling when we travel. Not in a flashy way. But in the way certain colors begin to forever remind us of certain places and versions of ourselves.

Santorini will always feel blue and white to me now.

Florence will forever feel olive green and cream.

And perhaps this chapter — Portugal and Spain in autumn — will become warm camel, terracotta, black, and bronze.

And I have to admit… I’m already smiling just thinking about it. ✨

Honey Note:

There is something undeniably romantic about preparing for a journey long before the plane ever leaves the runway.

The dreaming.

The planning.

The imagining of who you might become in the glow of another city at night.

And perhaps somewhere between Lisbon sunsets, Porto wine-colored evenings, late Madrid dinners, and Barcelona strolls beneath warm stone balconies… there may also be a little harmless flirting with life itself.

After all, beautiful places have a way of awakening beautiful feelings. ✨

With a carry-on full of neutrals, a heart full of wander,

and just enough spice to miss my flight for the right kiss someday… 💋
