The Seven-Sided Secret: Why my favorite white noise machine may be doing more than I realized

Who knew a white noise machine could hold secrets? My trusty LectroFan — a seven-sided friend by my bed — turns out to be magnetic. And I can’t stop wondering if that’s part of the reason I love it so much. 💤✨

For over a year now, my seven-sided LectroFan Classic white noise machine has been one of my most treasured bedtime companions. Every night, I switch it on, and within minutes, the gentle hum of white noise carries me into restful sleep. I’ve used many sound machines over the years — some pricier, some fancier — but none have worked as reliably for me as this quirky little heptagon perched by my bed.

Then, just the other night, I stumbled on something fascinating. While setting it down, a hairpin I was holding suddenly clung to the bottom of the LectroFan. To my surprise, the entire machine seemed magnetic.

Why Is It Magnetic?

After a bit of digging, here’s what I learned:

  • The Speaker Magnet – All speakers use magnets to produce sound, and the one inside the LectroFan is particularly strong. It’s likely positioned close to the bottom of the case, which allows its magnetic field to reach outside.

  • Steel Screws & Plates – Electronics often hide screws, plates, or other metal supports that can carry and extend the magnetism.

  • Not a Design Feature – The magnetic pull isn’t advertised. It’s just a byproduct of how the internal speaker is built.

So in short: my seven-sided sleep machine is magnetic because of the very magnet that powers the sound I’ve grown to depend on.

The Wondering Mind

Here’s where my imagination takes over. I’ve had countless electronics over the years, but none that felt this magnetic. Why this one? Could the magnet itself somehow play a deeper role in why this machine works so well for me?

I’m not suggesting it’s magic — but I do think it’s fun to wonder. Magnets are powerful forces in our universe. They guide compasses, protect our Earth from solar winds, and are even used in medical therapies. Who’s to say that a strong magnet humming beside my bed doesn’t have some subtle effect on the way I rest?

Maybe it’s purely science. Maybe it’s a happy accident. Maybe it’s something more.

My Takeaway

I’m not giving up my LectroFan — not at all. In fact, this discovery has made me love it even more. It’s as if I’ve uncovered a secret about an old friend, one that makes me ask new questions about the world.

Is it just a white noise machine with a big speaker magnet? Or is it another reminder that sometimes the ordinary things we live with daily can hold little mysteries worth noticing?

Either way, I’ll keep listening to its soothing hum, hairpins clinging to its seven sides, and my curiosity wide awake even as I drift into sleep.

✨ Honey Note: Life has a way of surprising us when we’re paying attention. Even something as small as a magnetic pull on a hairpin can open the door to wonder about our world, our universe, and the mysteries that keep us asking questions. And isn’t that what keeps us alive inside — to keep wondering?

💛 Honey
